Defined by Leonor Antunes (Lisbon, 1972) as “sculptures created in space”, the work by this leading artist establishes complex relationships between sculpture, architecture, design, light and the body. She dedicates special attention to the materials she uses, which are often natural or organic, and to the effects left on them by time and their use. Antunes is keenly interested in a number of 20th century women artists, architects and designers, which she thoroughly researches and brings in as powerful references in her own works. This is the most comprehensive publication on the artist to date, spanning her entire career, and it accompanies exhibitions at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) and Casa de Vidro [Glass House], and at the MUDAM Luxembourg—Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean. The book features images of 22 of Antunes most important exhibitions since 2007, as well as a section on some of her key references, with short texts and images on Anni Albers, Carlo Mollino, Carlo Scarpa, Charlotte Perriand, Clara Porset, Egle Trincanato, Eileen Grey, Eva Hesse, Franca Helg, Franco Albini, Gego, Lina Bo Bardi, Vilanova Artigas and Lygia Clark.
